The SAMCARA Cement Project wins Excellent Award at Good Design New Hope Award 2024
2024.11.19
The Cement Project, developed by researchers at Keio University Graduate School of Media Design SAMCARA lab, received the Excellent Award at Good Design New Hope Award 2024.
The Cement Project aims to address challenges specific to concrete such as gravel shortage, low functionality of architectural spaces, and environmental impact. The project focuses on developing and mass-producing zero greenhouse gas emission building materials. The judges highly praised the project’s extensive efforts to verify solutions to issues like the scarcity of high-quality sand and high CO2 emissions during concrete production. Despite the complex nature of material development, the project’s simple equation of “concrete = waste + water” effectively demonstrates the material’s practicality and potential. While not yet fully completed, the project shows great promise for continued research and development in this important area.
