Keio University Graduate School of Media Design, known as Keio Media Design or KMD, is inviting applications from qualified individuals to fill tenure-track faculty positions. The appointment is from April 1, 2017 but it can be deferred until September 15, 2017.
The mission of Keio University Graduate School of Media Design (KMD) is to develop media innovators who have the ability to innovate and create social value. Media innovators who are able to go beyond specific disciplines and national borders and be active on the global stage will become the leaders of the creative society in the 21st century.
KMD takes a practical, hands-on, and global approach to education and offers various projects in collaboration with international partner institutions and research facilities. The primary languages are both English and Japanese, thus we welcome faculty, researchers, and students with English proficiency.
KMD invites collaboration- and innovation-minded applicants from various disciplines, such as neuroscience, physics, biology, material science, chemistry, agriculture, applied mathematics, psychology, and economics, with qualifications, experience, and demonstrated excellence in innovative work to create new research domains. KMD is seeking candidates who wish to challenge themselves in fields that include but not limited to one or more of the following:

・ Food, Gastronomy, and Agriculture
・ Health and Wellness
・ Multi-Sensory and Transmedia
・ Deep Learning
・ Smart Cities and Enchanted Homes
Qualified candidates should have a master’s and preferably a doctoral degree with a proven commitment to quality teaching at the graduate level or professional equivalence in a related field. Salary is commensurate with experience according to Keio University guidelines.
The successful candidates will undertake teaching duties, engage in projects (called Real Projects), and take on some administrative tasks including committee work and attending meetings. The candidates will be expected to teach theoretical and practical hands-on courses at the graduate level, build and lead a team of graduate students in collaborative projects, and secure corporate partnerships to conduct research that have social and economic impact. They will be based mainly in Yokohama, Japan, with some additional teaching and project activities in other parts of Japan as well as at international partner locations.
