KEIO UNIVERSITY GRADUATE SCHOOL OF MEDIA DESIGN
The Keio University Graduate School of Media Design (KMD) addresses real-world challenges while envisioning optimal futures. Our mission is to pioneer “media design” – creating new connections between people and their environments – while developing “media innovators” who transcend traditional disciplinary and national boundaries.
The Keio University Graduate School of Media Design (KMD) empowers students to shape tomorrow’s society through “media design” – connecting people and environments in innovative ways while developing “media innovators” who excel across disciplines and borders.
At KMD, everything from human bodies to urban spaces to information environments is considered “media.” We combine established knowledge with fresh thinking to redesign existing frameworks and create new worldviews. Small actions born from curiosity, imagination, or purpose can trigger global transformations that eventually become known as “the future.”
Students engage with real-world challenges through “Real Projects,” collaborating with diverse stakeholders to develop value creation skills through four steps:
REFRAME: Question fundamental assumptions
MAKE: Transform ideas through iterative prototyping
DEPLOY: Implement solutions with stakeholders
IMPACT: Measure and visualize resulting changes
Our diverse international community fosters the agility and transformative capabilities needed for media innovators in today’s complex society.
KMD functions as both an educational institution and a future-creating research center. We transcend traditional academic boundaries, working with corporations, startups, governments, and citizens to create frameworks that address challenges from individual wellbeing to global sustainability.
Our mission is to shape humanity’s future through innovation, starting from Japan and extending worldwide through collaborative efforts with diverse stakeholders across all scales of human experience.
